In North Carolina, UNC-Chapel Hill graduate student Maya Little was found guilty of defacing the Confederate monument called Silent Sam that until recently stood on its perch on the UNC campus since its racist dedication ceremony in 1913. Little has never denied that she poured red paint and ink on the statue.
Little in the past has pushed the UNC administrators to add a plaque at the base of the statute to give it the proper historical context and its connection to pro-confederacy propaganda that encouraged the mistreatment of Black Americans. She only took action after her request fell on deaf ears.
“I went to Silent Sam. I poured my blood and red ink on the statue,” Little told The News & Observer last spring. “Without that context of what it was built on, which is violence toward black people, it is not a historical object. It is missing its history. It is sanitized.”
Orange County District Court Judge Samantha Cabe found Little guilty of a misdemeanor charge, but the judge did not hand down a sentence or punishment.
Little’s attorney, Scott Holmes, argued that Silent Sam is a form of “hate speech.” and that Little’s actions fell under the law of necessity.
While US citizens and cities across the United States work to remove the pro-slavery symbols of white supremacy, President Trump’s administration has been spending millions since 2017 to provide security for monuments to the enemies of the United States. For a man who says he only likes winners, Trump has gone out of his way to celebrate the losers of the Confederacy and their cause. Trump, the son of immigrants, has no family history connected to the American Civil War and is politicizing the issue as he continues to trafficking in white identity extremism as a way to retain support from what many deem to be a racist base of Confederate sympathizing voters.

Tune in for an hour of some of the latest in political news and hot topics of the day. A day after Kanye West dropped the truth bomb that the USA was still practicing slavery and permitting the use of slave labor as a matter of law spelled out in the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution and a need to change this travesty of permitting slavery, Alyssa Milano who has been at the center of the #MeToo movement and a staunch Judge Brett Kavanaugh critic, is proposing that the 1970s era "Equal Rights Amendment" be revisited and ratified.
Fake News made its way into a USA Today article that stated that men and women don't have equal protection under the law in the United States and therefore Congress needs to amend the Constitution to include women. Research into the issue has determined that is a lie. The 19th Amendment protects the voting rights of women and a key figure in the passage of the 19th Amendment is credited for adding discrimination based on "" added to the 1964 Civil Rights Act most known as an achievement of the Dr. King led civil rights movement.

Death Row Under The Microscope In North Carolina & Tennessee
Capital Punishment in the USA is under examination nationally after two stories emerge from North Carolina and Tennessee.
In Tennessee, a prisoner, Edmund George Zagorski, 63, is set to be executed on Oct 11th and rather than dying by lethal injection, wants to be killed by electric chair. Zagorski was convicted of a double homicide in 1983. “Faced with the choice of two unconstitutional methods of execution, Mr. Zagorski has indicated that if his execution is to move forward, he believes that the electric chair is the lesser of two evils,” Kelley Henry, Zagorski's defense lawyer said. “Ten to 18 minutes of drowning, suffocation and chemical burning is unspeakable.” Zagorski has pending appeals to state and federal courts, claiming lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment.
North Carolina has the nation's sixth largest Death Row population. The Center for Death Row Litigation based in Durham issued a new report that says three quarter's of the states death row prisoners don't belong there. The report, “Unequal Justice: How obsolete laws and unfair trial created North Carolina’s outsized Death Row,” has some alarming findings.
▪ 92 percent of the death row prisoners were tried and convicted before a 2008 reform package aimed at limiting false confessions and mistaken eyewitness identifications.
▪ 82 percent, 118 prisoners in all, were sent to death row before North Carolina passed a law giving the defense the right to view all the prosecution’s evidence. Up to then, district attorneys routinely withheld vital information until it was presented at trial, giving the accused little time to prepare a defense, the report says.
▪ 73 percent of the death row population, 103 inmates in all, were sent there before the passing of laws barring the execution of people with intellectual disabilities.
Gerda Stein, a spokeswoman for the litigation center, said the goal of the report is to educate the public and state decision-makers about the inequities in the state’s history with capital punishment.

There have been extreme and hypocritical views expressed on both sides of the Kavanaugh debate concerning allegations of sexual assault or rape. People like Donald Trump now want to decry a rush to judgment concerning his nominee but given his past concerning the Central Park 5 Case, he should STFU. Then there are plenty who believed the accusations against Brain Banks made by a spiteful Wanetta Gibson resulting in his wrongful conviction. The goal should not be to simply believe every woman is telling the truth about such allegations but allegations should not just be dismissed either. The goal should always be justice through a fair process. With that said, a Senate confirmation hearing is not a criminal court and therefore not the same standard but I fear that too mention time is being spent arguing about something that happened or didn't happen 30 years ago is taking away examination of his seemingly awful decisions and opinions as a judge.
Senator Kamala Harris is a hypocrite who is thought to be preparing for a Presidential run in 2020 and people should not be fooled by her #blackgirlmagic hashtags using race as a qualifier and they should not fall for her hypocritical outrage over Trump's family separation policy concerning migrant children.
Jason Van premeditated the murder of Laquan Mcdonald before he even came on the scene of the confrontation.

Tune in tonight for a discussion concerning certain elements among people who are largely self identifying as Black or African Americans who have among them a small group engaged in pushing a conspiracy theory that Black Americans have no historical connection to Africa and as part of their argument say that the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade that transported Africans to different parts of the world to be enslaved never happened. On the flip side of that are those who acknowledge the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade but seek to erase the role of specific African nations and tribes role in facilitating the largest event of human trafficking in human history.
BTR News will be joined in dialogue during the first hour by Brother Osei who publishes articles on his blog 21st Century Race Man who wrote an article about those who say African-Americans are not African and who also take issue with the label Black being applied to non-white people who they say are indigenous to the Americas.
Kanye West generated a curious backlash on Twitter for pointing out the 13th Amendment does not abolish slavery and saying that it needs to be amended so that slavery can no longer be practiced legally through the prison and court system in America. Despite the 13th Amendment exception clause, perhaps due to a lack of good reading comprehension, despite at least two documentaries about it, numerous mini-documentaries and several books on it, people are still in denial about slavery still being the supreme law of the land in the United States which manifested through prisons following the American Civil War. The Washington Post published a good article about Kanye's comments on the 13th Amendment and exposed how the loophole allowing slavery as punishment was protested against by at least one Republican anti-slavery Senator back when it was debated in the US Senate.
